Here's a shot of the Catholic Church in Fira on Santorini. This is a beautiful building but it's located in a densely populated area with narrow alleys and no clear view of the building. Took the picture with an 18 mm lens looking up at about a 45° angle. It was actually three exposures two stops apart – -2, 0, +2. The first step in postprocessing was to use Photomatix to create an HDR image to hold the details in both the shadows and highlights. Then I loaded it into Photoshop, duplicated the background layer and used the Move tool stretch out the top to remove the keystoning. It looked pretty good except that the area on the far right had a bunch of roof lines sneaking in. Used the Patch tool replace them with blue sky to give nice clean lines. The last step was to give it an additional 30 in Saturation. That's typical for my camera. As I look at the picture now, I think that the statue in the foreground could probably be lightened up a bit. It's always challenging to know when to quit. I always feel like I can do a better job.
It's an HDR picture. Started out with the usual three exposures, -2, normal, +2. Used Photomatix to combine them and then Photoshop CC to tune it up.
Great church on Santorini in the village of Megalochori. It's even got a couple of flying buttresses if you look closely. This is very close to what came out of the camera. All that's been done in Photoshop is to put a bit more detail in the shadows and darken the sky a bit.
